ALPS Establishes ALPS Green Devices Co., Ltd
Business alliance with Innovation Network Corporation of Japan; incorporation of a new company
Duesseldorf, Germany, May 25, 2010 - ALPS ELECTRIC, a leading global manufacturer of high-quality electronic components for mobile devices, home electronics, vehicles and industrial equipment, and Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), a public-private partnership aimed at promoting innovation and enhancing the value of businesses in Japan, recently announced the official incorporation of the new company ALPS Green Devices Co., Ltd. President and CEO of the new company is Yasuhiro Fujii.

ALPS Green Devices is a partial spin-off of ALPS’ business with regard to power conversion and power control devices. It will start operations in June 2010. The aim of ALPS Green Devices is to create an open innovation style of business and development and to address “Green Devices” related industries and research institutions. This will lead to more competition in the power-electronics industry and the development and commercialization of power conversion and power control devices with small and high-efficient performance, ultimately contributing to the realization of a low-carbon society. To reach this goal, the new company will develop, manufacture and sell parts, semi-finished products and materials used for power conversion devices, power control devices and electric measurement equipment.

Inductors for power supply and current sensors will be the two main businesses of the new company. ALPS Electric contributes its magnetic material and thin-film process technologies and provides manufacturing, sales, and administrative support to the new company. On the other hand, INCJ will invest in ALPS Green Devices and at the same time will serve its networks, which aim at establishing a company with strong constitution and expanding the business dramatically through innovative marketing of products.

For the future, the new company will positively enhance capital and technology alliance with “Green Devices” related industries and research institutions from the perspective of the “open-innovation” with a target to obtain the global standard.
