New ATEX Brochure from Pfaff-silberblau and Yale |
The Columbus McKinnon Group’s two German subsidiaries present their products together for the first time |
Kissing and Velbert, Germany, July 29, 2010 – For the first time since it was acquired by the U.S.-based Columbus McKinnon Group (CMCO) in 2008, Pfaff-silberblau Hebezeugfabrik GmbH of Kissing, Germany, is presenting its products together with its German sister company, Yale Industrial Products, which is based in the city of Velbert. In a new brochure, the two companies are now showcasing their joint range of hoisting equipment that is approved for use in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres. In its extensive introductory section, the 44-page ATEX brochure from Pfaff-silberblau and Yale explains the basic requirements from the 94/9/EG and 99/92/EG ATEX directives for those who manufacture explosion-protected operating resources or who operate systems with potentially explosive atmospheres. Crucial here is the configuration of the individual tools in accordance with their specific area of application: With well structured tables and a technical questionnaire, the ATEX brochure helps customers classify their applications into the right categories, zones, equipment groups, temperature classes and explosion groups. Once the areas that are subject to an explosion hazard have been defined, the brochure offers specific products that are suitable for materials handling in these environments. The Yale CPA ATEX pneumatic chain hoist, for instance – which is either available with a suspension hook or an integrated trolley – offers a load-bearing capacity of up to 10,000 kg and can be used at temperatures of up to +135°C. The Yalelift 360 ATEX hand chain hoist uses a special cooling element to keep the brake within a safe temperature range. Moreover, since it is coated with an MKS micro-layer corrosion protection system, it is also robust enough for outdoor use. With its extremely low-headroom manual trolley, the Yalelift IT ATEX explosion-protected hand chain hoist with an integrated push or geared-type trolley mount helps lift heavy loads of up to 10 tons flexibly, even in environments with tight space restrictions. For those who need an even lower overall height, the Yalelift LH ATEX is the best choice. Furthermore, Yale’s ATEX program also includes the HTP ATEX and HTG ATEX manual trolleys for precision positioning in Zone 1 applications, as well as the smooth-running UNOplus ratchet-lever hoist for lifting and pulling loads between 750 kg and 6,000 kg. In its ATEX program, Pfaff-silberblau shows individual components that – due to their modular design – can also serve as a basis for complete lifting systems. The required ignition-source analyses were performed in collaboration with accredited test centers and provided the foundation for the mechanical and electrical development work on the new BETA-EX electric wire-rope winch. With its tensile force of 320 kg to 7,500 kg, this device adapts flexibly to individual requirements in areas subject to explosion hazards, such as those that can be found in the chemicals or petrochemicals industry, in biogas plants or in paint shops. The wire-rope winch meets the requirements for Category 2 of the ATEX directive. As a dynamic all-round piece of equipment from Pfaff-silberblau, the DSRBX wire-rope sheave blocks for the BETA-EX electric wire-rope winch ensure smooth deflection by up to 180° for loads up to a maximum of 8 tons. With the OMEGA-EX wire-rope hand winch with a friction disc brake, the special protection against explosions is made possible by its design, which eliminates ignition sources. In addition, the ATEX-compliant design renders mechanically induced sparks passé for the ZWW-EX wall-mounted rack-and-pinion jack as well. This device is primarily used for lifting, lowering, pushing or pressing loads in tasks for plant construction, shipping or waste-treatment plants as well as in the chemicals industry or food industry. The ATEX-compliant hoisting equipment from Pfaff-silberblau and Yale are used by power companies and natural gas suppliers, in underground construction firms, by recycling companies and waste-removal companies at waste sites, by metal-working companies and paint shops, by the chemicals industry, in the pharmaceuticals industry and refineries, and in the wood-processing industry, the food and feed industry, and in agriculture.
