Redesigned SHE worm gear screw jack from Pfaff-silberblau is impressive inside and out |
Kissing, Germany, 13 September 2010 - “Those who cease improving also cease to be good.” - The engineers at Pfaff-silberblau Hebezeuge GmbH of Kissing, Germany, pursue the ambitious goal of constantly optimizing even the company’s most tried-and-true products. These efforts also encompass the company’s family of versatile SHE worm gear screw jacks: At Motek Exhibition 2010, this linear actuator specialist is presenting the redesigned SHEs. These jacks offer more than just the attractive ap-pearance due to the new housing material and unique styling. Above all, they feature impressive technology with higher availability. 20 percent lighter with increased rigidity Using the finite element method (FEM), Pfaff-silberblau’s developers sub-jected the SHE gearbox to material analysis. On the basis of these results, they used high-grade ductile iron (spherulitic graphite cast iron) to develop a housing that is as much as 20 percent lighter than its predecessor. Despite this reduction, a clever ribbing design has made it possible to actually increase rigidity. Distinctive appearance thwarts plagiarism With the new design, Pfaff-silberblau’s SHE now has an appearance that clearly distinguishes it from the worm-gear pairs offered by other manufac-turers. Such offerings frequently have a very similar appearance but differ significantly with regard to the technical parameters and the quality of the individual components. Furthermore, in the face of the growing product piracy problem occurring in the area of machine construction, it is crucial to be able to clearly differentiate the product from lower-quality fakes by creat-ing an easily recognizable “visual signature.” For this reason, Pfaff-silberblau has secured copyright protection for all relevant technical and visual changes on the SHE. Shorter cool-off periods enable longer duty cycles The enhanced design of the SHE’s exterior also results in impressive tech-nical advantages for applications: The new configuration ensures ideal transfer of heat to the ambient air. Optimized gear-tooth geometry and combinations of materials reduce losses and improve heat transition val-ues. This ensures that longer duty cycles are possible for the worm gear screw jacks under tough environmental conditions. This higher level of availability makes the SHE interesting once more for heavy duty industrial applications and special applications with stringent safety requirements, such as adjusting the height of wings and fuselage sections in the assembly lines of an international aircraft manufacturer, in units for adjusting equipment for sandblasting steel pipes and even for use in areas with an explosive atmosphere (ATEX) or in power plants. Compatible and variable During the overhaul of the standardized worm gear screw jacks, Pfaff-silberblau’s engineers paid close attention to making certain that the cus-tomer-relevant overall dimensions remained unchanged. This ensures that the new design can also be used to replace jacks in systems that are al-ready installed. Simultaneously Pfaff-silberblau made sure that existing add-on components, such as the motor mounting flange, can still be installed on the redesigned housing without requiring modification of the housing. In fact, the SHE’s variability in this regard has even increased. Short lead times, great diversity of variations As with its predecessor, the redesigned SHEs from Pfaff-silberblau adapt to a system of standardized modules. For customers, this means that the new series of models can be used interchangeably with the existing “classic” worm gear screw jacks and that the delivery periods for all components have been drastically reduced. SHE modules in many different variations The SHE modules from Pfaff-silberblau come in two different types – with a lifting or rotating screw – in the sizes 0.5 to 200 and with lifting capacities of 5 kN to 2,000 kN for low and medium lifting speeds at a input speed of 1,500 min-1. Depending on the version, the worm gear screw jacks are equipped with safety-relevant self-locking trapezoidal screws, grease lubrication, worm gear pairs in two ratio steps as well as worm drive shafts that have been case-hardened and ground. Pfaff-silberblau will be providing information on the versatility of its rede-signed SHE worm gear screw jacks and on the other products from its port-folio at Motek 2010 at Booth 5428 in Hall 5. The booth will also include ex-hibits from its subsidiary ALLTEC Antriebstechnik GmbH of Heilbronn, Germany, which will be showing its latest flag-ship products, the TELESTO and PHOENIX lifting columns and the TARVOS linear actuators. |
