Successful in building technology: Pfaff-silberblau installs its safe BETA EL wire rope winches into the Futurium
Kissing (Germany), September 4, 2018 - The Pfaff-silberblau wire rope winches BETA EL in BGV-C1 design are increasingly used in architecture and building technology, as illustrated by the current example "Futurium", which is due to officially open in spring 2019 in Berlin. The Futurium aims to allow the world of tomorrow to be experienced in the Futurium Lab as well as with exhibitions and events. A reliable winch system from Columbus McKinnon Engineered Products, Kissing, can now lower various traverses and screens individually or in groups from the ceiling and position them at any height for presentations at a variety of events. The BETA EL winches of the Pfaff-silberblau brand in BGV-C1 design deployed here, which are controlled by a safety PLC, comply with the high safety requirements of the German Employers' Liability Insurance Association regulations for areas in which people are below suspended loads. As such, in addition to safety-critical industrial applications, they are also ideally suited for building and stage technology.

Safely control screens by radio

The Futurium is a state-of-the-art building that provides enough space for the Futurium Lab, exhibitions and events on a total of 5,000 square metres. There are flexibly partitionable conference and meeting rooms, and even for events with up to 550 people there is a room that can be divided multiple times as needed. The division of the rooms requires a flexible winch system in which the wire rope winches in BGV-C1 design can be controlled by radio individually or in groups, allowing the traverses to be safely brought into position. In total, 16 BETA EL wire rope winches from Pfaff-silberblau are installed in the Futurium. Depending on the event, the operator selects the respective traverses via the TFT monitor and positions them using radio remote control. The monitor also allows the movement and load data to be read.

Futurium - a modern building by BAM

The building erected by BAM Deutschland AG construction engineering company has created a contemporary venue for exhibitions and events around the topic of shaping the future; a forum for science and culture, politics, business and society. It is located in the heart of the government district, directly on the Spree, in close proximity to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The build was realised in public-private partnership: BAM is a private partner of the Institute for Federal Real Estate, which realised the project on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as property owner and builder. BAM has awarded the subproject "Traverse winches with control system" entirely to Columbus McKinnon Engineered Products. Initial events, which are currently taking place before the official opening, already show how reliable and safe the winch system works.
