Infineon’s Multimedia Platform for Dual-mode Handsets Powers Newly Launched “SoftBank 705P”, GPRS/UMTS 3G Phone for Japanese market from Panasonic Mobile Communications
Munich, Germany, October 5, 2006 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of communication ICs today announced that its GPRS/UMTS multimedia platform powers Panasonic Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. newest commercially available Softbank 705P mobile handset which SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp. launched these days for the Japanese market. Infineon’s scalable platform, the MP-EU (Multimedia Platform EDGE/UMTS) contains all the necessary hardware and software components of a mobile handset. It enables mobile phone manufacturers to quickly introduce a variety of UMTS models all based on the same core architecture significantly reducing design cycles and slashing time-to-market.

The Softbank 705P, GPRS/UMTS dual-mode phone will be commercially available in Japan, a market well known for its challenging, high quality requirements. The phone supports the 3GPP Release 99 specifications, has achieved full conformance and has successfully passed interoperability and field testing with all the world's leading infrastructure vendors and operators. This achievement underscores Infineon’s position as a leading supplier of chipset and software solutions in the mobile phone market.

Infineon’s MP-EU hardware reference design consists of the company’s state-of-the-art baseband, RF transceiver, power management and Bluetooth devices. The software platform consists of cutting-edge GPRS/UMTS dual-mode protocol stacks that are complemented by the APOXI® application and multimedia framework. All software modules are provided by Comneon, a wholly owned subsidiary of Infineon Technologies AG and a leading supplier of advanced software solutions for mobile communications.
