Infineon’s AMAZON-SE ADSL2/ 2+ System-On-a-Chip Wins IEC 2007 InfoVision Award in “Enabling Silicon and Component-Level Technologies” Category |
Berlin, Germany, October 9, 2007 – Today, at the Broadband World Forum (BBWF) in Berlin, Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX) received an InfoVision Award from the International Engineering Consortium (IEC). Infineon’s integrated AMAZON-SE ADSL2/ 2+ system-on-a-chip (SoC) was selected as the winner in the “Enabling Silicon and Component-Level Technologies” category for its robust, high-performance solution. The IEC InfoVision Award recognizes outstanding technologies, applications, products, advancements and services that are of special importance or value for the telecommunications industry. The awards recognizes companies and individuals that have made pioneering developments and contributions to society. “The IEC’s InfoVision Awards give tribute to the top broadband technologies in deployment today. We’re pleased to recognize Infineon Technologies for its AMAZON-SE in the category Enabling Silicon and Component-Level Technologies,” commented IEC President John Janowiak. “Infineon is extremely honored to win the prestigious InfoVision Award,” said Dominik Bilo, Senior Vice President, Sales and Group Marketing at Infineon’s Communication Solutions Business Group. “It gives us great pride to receive two awards this year from the IEC for our products and we are grateful for the recognition of our achievements as an innovator and leader in the field of DSL.” The AMAZON-SE is a new system-on-a-chip solution for DSL modems and routers, and is the third generation of Infineon’s proven ADSL2/ 2+ CPE (customer premises equipment) chip solutions. The SoC was developed specifically for Ethernet and USB-connected bridge modems and routers, and is primarily being used for DSL deployment in new markets, where it offers high quality and flexibility at lower overall system costs. The chip’s highly integrated design can reduce the number of external components required in an ADSL2/ 2+ modem by 10 percent in comparison with existing solutions. Besides reducing complexity, it sets new standards in the sector for the lowest bill of materials and for the lowest power consumption industry-wide. The AMAZON-SE is a highly optimized solution that gives customers what they need to succeed in broadband technology’s promising high-growth markets. The SoC solution enables systems vendors to support multiple applications and serve different markets with the same hardware and software platform. In June, Infineon received an InfoVision Award in the “Broadband Appliances, Devices, and Home Networking” category at the Broadband World Forum Asia for its Tantos Gigabit Ethernet switch. Tantos is a cost-effective, high-performance solution designed to support triple-play services in home networks. |
