Infineon Offers Microcontroller / Power Development Kit with Excellent Price/Performance Ratio for Industrial and Consumer Motor Control |
Neubiberg, Germany – February 21, 2008 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX) today announced availability of a very-low-cost 3-phase motor-control development kit which combines the company’s XC886 series of 8-bit MCUs capable of supporting Field Oriented Control (FOC) with its latest highly integrated intelligent power module CIPOS™ (Control Integrated Power System). Reflecting Infineon’s commitment to improving energy efficiency and driving advancements in embedded motor control applications, the company’s efforts bring power efficiency to cost-sensitive consumer and industrial applications. Among these cost-sensitive applications are motor controls in devices such as washing machines, dish washers, air conditioners, and other household appliances, as well as industrial fans and pumps where energy consumption is required to decrease based on regulatory requirements and consumer demand. Infineon’s 3-phase Motor Drive Application Kit offers designers a shorter time-to-market for energy-efficient motor control designs pursuing excellent torque dynamics, reduced noise and high system reliability. Including an optimized FOC motor control software, along with a digitally isolated real-time monitoring tool, the development kit offers an easy-to-use reference platform capable of driving both permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) and induction motors (ACIM) with power rating of up to 750W. Infineon’s high-performance 8-bit MCUs XC886 combine an enhanced 8051 core with a 16-bit vector computer and a powerful motor control peripheral set, including a 10-bit ADC and a flexible PWM CAPCOM6, a capture compare unit. Based on a combination of Infineon’s leading-edge TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) and emitter controlled diode technology, the CIPOS power module eliminate as many as 23 discrete components, compared to a design based on discrete components in the application. The microcontroller / power module combination offers excellent electrical performance at low costs and reduces board space requirements. The on-board switched mode power supply based on COOLSET™ with integrated PWM and protection control IC enables quick start-up and evaluation. 3-phase Motor Drive Application Kit presented at Embedded World Show Infineon will demonstrate the new 3-phase Motor Drive Application Kit, featuring an 8-bit MCU with 16-bit motor-control performance; CIPOS, an intelligent power module with best-in-class thermal resistance; and an on-board switched mode power supply with PWM and protection control IC for quick start-up at the Embedded World Show (February 26–28, 2008) at Infineon’s booth #426 in Hall 12. Availability and Pricing The 3-phase Motor Drive Application Kit is available now from Infineon sales offices and distributors. It is priced at a recommended resale price of Euros 449.00 per piece.
