Infineon Is World’s First Semiconductor Provider to Receive the Highest Level Quality Award from Toyota Hirose Plant
Neubiberg, Germany and Tokyo, Japan – May 14, 2010 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) today announced that the Hirose plant of the Toyota Motor Corporation awarded Infineon the ”Honor Quality Award”, its highest level award for delivering extraordinary product quality. This is the first time ever that a non-Japanese company was honored with a “Honor Quality Award” and Infineon is the only recipient of the award in 2010. Infineon was recognized for providing CAN transceivers with zero-defect quality for four years running to the Toyota Hirose plant, where state-of-the art electronics components for Toyota vehicles are developed and manufactured.

“Receiving the ‘Honor Quality Award’ from Toyota’s Hirose plant as one of a few hundred suppliers is a great honor to us and confirms our ongoing striving for automotive excellence and zero-defect quality,“ said Jochen Hanebeck, Division President of the Automotive Division at Infineon Technologies AG. “Our semiconductors are the basis for automotive electronics innovation. Infineon’s commitment to innovation and zero-defect quality made us global market leader for automotive semiconductors. On track to become the leading supplier in the future electric mobility market, we will continue to meet the quality standards entrusted in us.”

Hirofumi Muta, Operating Officer at Toyota and Head of the Hirose plant, presented the award to Yasuaki Mori, President of Infineon Technologies Japan, at a ceremony today.

The Toyota Hirose plant presents its annual Quality Awards in five categories: ”Honor Quality Award” for more than 4-years running of zero defect, ”Best Quality Award” for three consecutive years running of zero defect, ”Excellent Quality Award” for zero defect in the year, ”Superior Quality Award” and ”Grateful Diploma”. In the past five years, only three suppliers have received the “Honor Quality Award”, and five suppliers have been awarded with the ”Best Quality Award”. In the past seven years, Infineon received six quality Toyota awards: for Best Quality in the year of 2009, Excellent Quality in 2004, 2007 and 2008, and Superior Quality in 2006, in addition to Honor Quality in 2010.

According to the recent report of market research company Strategy Analytics, Infineon is one of the foremost non-Japanese suppliers of semiconductors in Japan, with 2.8 percent of the market. Infineon is globally ranked as the number one automotive semiconductor supplier, with a 9.0 percent share of the total $US14.4 billion automotive semiconductor market in the 2009 calendar year. In Europe, which is recognized as a key center of innovation in the field of automotive electronics, Infineon remains the unchallenged market leader with a share of 13.6 percent.
