Innovative Medical Platform Solution from Infineon for a Wide Range of Electronic Applications in the Growth Market of Medical Technology |
Neubiberg, Germany – September 28, 2010 – Infineon Technologies has launched a new, innovative platform solution for high-performance medical technology devices. The MD8710 Medical Platform from Infineon is based on the integration of standard functions. The smart deployment of functions makes it suitable for use in a diverse range of different electronic applications in medical technology. Possible fields of application include electronic blood sugar and blood pressure meters, electrochemical analyses and fitness devices, which can transmit their readings automatically also via mobile communication to the doctor’s or hospital’s computer systems. Market researchers from InMedica estimate the total shipments only for telehealth electronics devices of more than two million by 2013. The customer-specific analysis software of Infineon’s Medical Platform can be implemented on the integrated, energy efficient high-performance ARM Cortex R4 processor. The analog analysis stage of the platform permits multiple stimuli with synchronous measurement, which makes it simple to use with photo and sensor applications. The smart power management unit incorporated in Infineon’s new product saves board space and enables portable, battery-powered devices in extremely compact formats. This allows significantly more cost-effective and energy-efficient medical technology devices to be developed and produced. In addition to integrating the standard transmission technologies such as USB and Bluetooth into this device for the simple and reliable exchange of data, Infineon as a member of the Continua Health Alliance provides support for the respective protocols and standards. “With the new Medical Platform, Infineon supports the development of medical devices with cutting-edge technologies, enabling cost-effective diagnosis and patient treatment”, said Kurt Marquardt, Senior Director Marketing ASIC& Power IC of Infineon Technologies. “The platform makes the most sophisticated medical measuring technology possible in portable formats.” Availability The Medical Platform is now available through distributors as a development platform featuring the integrated MD8710 chip.
