Infineon receives Sustainability Award from Bombardier Transportation |
Neubiberg, July 9, 2013 – Bombardier Transportation, an international market leader in modern rail transportation technologies, has presented Infineon Technologies AG with its Supplier Sustainability Award 2013. Bombardier introduced this award in 2011, and it is bestowed once a year in two categories. In the category for “Companies with more than 500 employees”, Infineon won the prize for reaching the sustainability goals it had set itself. The Jury deemed Infineon’s high level of product responsibility as well as the positive environmental effects its assortment has meant for the sustainable mobility of Bombardier Transportation particularly worthy of a prize. The award was presented at the Bombardier Suppliers’ Days 2013 by Daniel Desjardins, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary as well as Chairman CSR Committee of Bombardier Inc., Canada, and Charles O‘ Donnell, Chief Procurement Officer of Bombardier Transportation, on July 8, 2013. Bombardier Transportation’s Sustainability Award followed a two-step process. First of all, the 57 companies that took part answered a whole range of questions on the focal issues of corporate management, supply chain, transparency and environment. The ten finalists selected then took part in several rounds of interviews, in which they had to provide answers regarding strategy and sustainability case studies. Infineon emerged as the winner after the round of interviews. “Corporate Social Responsibility is an integral part of Infineon’s corporate strategy and forms the basis of our business activities. This award validates our focus on sustainability,” said Dr. Helmut Gassel, Head of Industrial Power Control at Infineon, on the occasion of the award ceremony. “We are extremely grateful to have received this award. It also provides us with added incentive for our future activities in the area of sustainability. The same applies for our semiconductor and system solutions, which play such an important role in increasing energy efficiency and thus saving resources.” Corporate Social Responsibility at Infineon As a global company, Infineon has been a participant in the UN Global Compact Initiative since 2004 and has made a voluntary commitment to international society in terms of economic, ecological and social concerns. The necessary structures, processes and regulations required in this connection were defined on the basis of the UN Global Compact Principles. Infineon has six CSR pillars that bear this responsibility: Human Resources Management and Human Rights, Corporate Citizenship, Business Ethics, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sustainability, and CSR Supply Chain Management. The great importance that Infineon attaches to CSR is highlighted by the fact that Infineon has been listed in the “Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index” for the third consecutive year. Infineon is sector leader in the semiconductor industry in the areas of “Product Stewardship” and “Operational Eco-efficiency”. Infineon’s renewed inclusion in the “Sustainability Yearbook” also shows that in terms of CSR, Infineon is among the 15 percent most sustainable companies worldwide. Each year, 2500 companies are assessed and ranked in terms of sustainability, and only the top 375 are listed in the Sustainability Yearbook.
