Infineon Introduces Vinetic-Plus, World’s First Single-Chip Digital and Analog VoIP Engine; New Chip Enables Small VoIP Adapters for Global Use
Munich – June 5, 2006 - Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX) today introduced the world’s first single-chip VoIP (Voice-over-IP) engine with integrated codec and analog telephony interface.  The new Vinetic-Plus paves the way for creation of highly compact and portable VoIP-telephony adapters that allow any analog phone to establish VoIP calls from any broadband Internet connection.

Compared to existing solutions, the Infineon Vinetic-Plus reduces the printed circuit board area required for an adapter by at least 30 per cent.  For example, the PCB area for a 2-channel FXS (Foreign Exchange Station) VoIP system using Vinetic-Plus measures just 40 mm x 48 mm. In addition to the VoIP processor, complete subscriber line interface (SLIC) functionality is integrated into the chip, eliminating the separate analog interface circuit or codec required for current chip-based designs.

“Infineon has leveraged its decades of experience as a provider of analog voice ICs to establish Vinetic as the leading family of voice processors to power the VoIP revolution,” said Christian Wolff, Senior Vice President of the Communication Solutions Business Group and General Manager of the Wireline Access Business Unit at Infineon. “With Vinetic-Plus, we are extending the reach of VoIP to ultra-portable and wireless adapters and gateway products for residential and small office/home office environments.”

The market for VoIP access devices is growing dramatically, with the total number of VoIP subscribers estimated to increase from approximately 35 million in 2006 to as many as 104 million in 2010 (Source: iSuppli). With its Vinetic family, Infineon offers equipment manufacturers multiple devices to support product lines that address different market segments while reusing software code and protocol stacks to shorten time to market and simplify engineering.

With Vinetic-Plus as the basis of miniaturized analog telephony adapters, travelers will be able to easily place VoIP calls from anywhere in the world, from any broadband access connection. The highly integrated chip includes DSP, memory, codec and dual SLICs to support standard telephony features such as caller ID, call hold and three-way conferencing.

The single-chip Vinetic-Plus expands Infineon’s broad range of integrated circuits for very small and feature-rich communications solutions. It combines the VoIP expertise of the Vinetic-CPE series with the high-voltage process of Infineon’s SLIC devices. The solution is supported by the recently announced Spinacer comprehensive software package for state-of-the-art technologies, including ADSL2+, VoIP and WLAN. Vinetic-Plus supports 1- or 2-channel analog telephone interfaces, as well as 4-channel VoIP, G.711, G.723.1, G.726 ADPCM, G.729A/B, iLBC coding and T.38 fax.

The Vinetic-Plus comes in a PG-LBGA-144 (green) package and is sampling now.
